Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway - This group is slowly rebuilding one of the Maine two-foot gauge railways. |
Ohio Central Railroad - Tourist line? Main line? Ohio Central has aspects of both, and is of course a successful freight railroad as well. Webmaster Jason Johnson is a steam mechanic in the OHCR shops as well. |
Heber Valley Railroad - Nestled among the ski resorts of Park City and Sundance is this very scenic railroad. |
Cass Scenic Railroad - It's not in the middle of nowhere, but there's a sign pointing there as you come into town. Remote, scenic, and a real taste of a logging town. |
Austin & Texas Central - Steam locomotive 786 is currently down for repairs, but the Hill Country Flyer will be steam-powered again soon. |
Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad - The Middletown & Hummelstown is restoring a Canadian National 2-6-0 to service. |
Western Maryland Scenic Railroad - The former Western Maryland mainline lives on when no. 734 blows for the Cash Valley Road crossing and arches around Helmstetter's Curve. |
The Nevada Northern Railway - The Nevada Northern railroad complex at Ely, NV rivals its more popular narrow gauge counterparts in Chama and Orbisonia for completeness and atmosphere. The tracks over which excursion trains operate is very scenic as well, and the railway also owns a collection of freight equipment. |
North Carolina Transportation Museum - The official site for Historic Spencer Shops, featuring a growing collection of railroad artifacts from the Piedmont and the Blue Ridge. |
Georgetown Loop Railroad - Lindsey Ashby's Georgetown Loop operation is a successful public-private partnership in action, and a scenic railway as well. |
White Pass & Yukon Railroad - Not the easiest steam railroad in the US to get to, the White Pass is one of the more interesting, and will become even more interesting next year when Georgetown Loop no. 40 goes into service there for five years. |

Canadian National 4-8-2 6060 - Now named "The Spirit of Alberta," 6060 is running several trips out of Stetler, AB, in 1999. This is the site for the locomotive, not the railway, but you will find 6060's excursion schedule reproduced here. |

Severn Valley Railway - Sixteen miles of Great Western heritage near Birmingham, England, and one of the largest operating locomotive fleets anywhere. |
Mid-Hants Railway (The Watercress Line) - This ten-mile preserved railway is the location of our October photo of the month. A fine recreation of Southern Region steam. |
Swanage Railway - The Swanage Railway is a real taste of Southern Region history, with Pacifics co-existing among tank engines just like the old days. |
