A great links section.   Trains Magazine    -    Another great news and links section.   The Roundhouse    -    Bob Harbison of TrainNet has put together a huge collection of steam and other railroad links.     Miscellaneous sites   Geared Steam Locomotive Works    -     David Thomas' resource center for geared steam locomotives, including some types you've never heard of.   Restore 2124!    -     Brian Wowak makes his feelings about Steamtown's Reading 4-8-4 very clear.   Steam in the Valley    -     John Coniglio has put the history of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum into book form. You can order the book direct from this site.   Surviving World Steam Locomotives    -     James Hefner sells a database that contains information on almost 15,000 steam locomotives around the world, and updates it regularly. You can even add your own photos to your copy of the database. (SteamCentral uses Mr. Hefner's database for some of its locomotive information.)   The Southern Belle    -    OK, so it's not a steam page. But Mike Haverty's Kansas City Southern is a forward-thinking, customer-first, friendly railroad. And savvy, too. KCS places the pages for the "Southern Belle" - KCS' business train of F-units and passenger cars that truly gleam, move fast, and hold their own when compared to the UP's larger fleet - in the "Employees" section of its well-designed web site, and the "Belle" is used to reward employees as well as woo customers. How's that for showing employees that they're important? This site is included because KCS is nice enough to post the "Belle" schedule for all to see, making it easier to shoot. Note to Mike Haverty and Homer Henry: ex-SLSF 4-8-2 1522 would sure look good pulling the "Belle." (And while I've got your attention, can I interest you in the IC 4-8-2 in McComb, MS, or maybe the NKP 4-6-4 in St. Louis?)     Criteria for inclusion in this link list is as follows: The site must be related to steam locomotive preservation and/or operation in some way.
